Another tab will tell you about Rome being converted to Christianity. This page will tell you about the Roman gods and goddesses.

The Roman gods and goddesses were Greek gods and goddesses, but with different names, and a stricter, harsher, personality.

Roman Gods, Goddesses, Monsters, Heroes, etc.


Jupiter:
-was the most powerful of the gods
-can hurl a thunderbolt. 
-not afraid of anyone or anything. 
-the king of the gods
-the ultimate authority
-gained his wisdom from drinking his first wife
-god of lightning, all things, the universe

Juno:
-was the sister and wife of Jupiter
-the Queen
-Juno watched over women of Rome
-symbol was the peacock
-hates Jupiter's other wives 
-childbirth and marriage, women

Neptune:
-the lord of the sea
-brother of Jupiter
-very powerful
- very moody just like the ocean itself
-god of the ocean, kind personality
-has a trident

Pluto:
-another brother of Jupiter
-lord of the underworld
-"stole" Kore(Persephone) and married her as a wife
-people were terrified of him
-god of deathly spirits, ghosts, etc.
-had a 3 headed guard Dog

Mars:
-Jupiter's and Hera's son
-the god of war
-nobody liked Mars
-tall and handsome and cruel and vain
-only person who liked Mars at all was Venus
-very strong "want-to-beat-you-up" personality

Mercury: 
-also Jupiter's son 
-messenger of the gods 
-other gods trusted him
-good at inventing
-has a kind personality
-loyal

Apollo:
-Jupiter's *first* son 
-god of the sun, light and music
-fell in love with Cassandra, plan backfired
-played the lyre
-supposed to be good-looking, handsome

Diana:
-was goddess of the hunt 
-Apollo's twin sister
-cold and ruthless
-loved her hunting partners, dogs
-was fond of maidens
-swore to no men
-Loathes the men

Minerva: 
-was the goddess of wisdom
-outsmarted Neptune
-extremely wise
-wiser than Jupiter 
-goddess of weaving, crafts, strategic battle

Vesta:
-goddess of hearth and home
-Juno's sister
-Vesta watched over woman's homes and children
-very kind and understanding
-oldest of the gods and goddesses
-quite shy...

Bacchus: 
-was the god of wine, civilization, law
-loves wine
-taught men how to make wine

Ceres:
-was the goddess of the harvest
-Juno's other sister.
-had a daughter that was taken away by Pluto
-half of the year her daughter must stay with Pluto for she ate Underworld Food
-That half of the year Ceres mourns, and refuses to spread her magic of harvest to the people
-That creates the fall and winter
-gave men bountiful crop

Venus:
-the goddess of love and beauty
-had many admirers
-accidentally started the Trojan War
-very good at getting people together
-was always getting into, breaking, and messing up relationship

Vulcan:
-was the son of Juno 
-the husband of Venus, the goddess of love
-Vulcan made the first woman out of clay, Pandora
-god of blacksmiths and fire
-good at making things
-only born by Juno
-was supposed to be big, ugly, but very smart 

Hercules:
-was another of Jupiter's sons
-mother was a mortal
-Hercules was half man, half god, and very strong
-Hercules had great adventures
-discovered true friends
-rid the world of some horrible monsters 
-twelve labors
-earned his right in Olympus

Cupid: 
-was the son of Venus
-carried a bow and arrow to shoot people
-when you were shot with Cupid's arrow, you fell in love with the very next person you saw
-quite mischievous 
-had a blunt one that made you loathe the next person you looked at
-liked to make trouble in relationships

Orpheus:
-son of Apollo and Calliope
-famous musician in the ancient world
-fell in love with Eurydice, but lost her
-trained the Muses

Pegasus:
-was a winged horse who could fly
-People were always trying to steal Pegasus
-had many children
-original pegasus helps the gods and goddesses

Muses: 
-9 daughters of Jupiter and Mnomosyne 
-beautiful music 
-were patrons of the arts and sciences
-Calliope, Urania, Euterpe, Thalia, Inspiration, Melpomene, Erato, Mnemosyne, Clio, Terpsichore, and Polymnia
